Scanning receipts in any currency

Typing in every receipt by hand is the main reason people give up tracking their spending. A receipt scanner reads the photo for you, so adding a purchase takes a few seconds.

How it works in Wholio

1. Scan or upload. On a phone or tablet, tap Scan and take a photo. On a computer, upload a photo or a PDF.
2. The details fill in. The shop, date, total, currency, and a likely category automatically fill in.
3. Check and save. Fix anything that's off, then save. You can keep the photo with the entry if you want it later.

Read on your own device

Wholio reads the receipt on your phone or computer itself. The photo isn't sent to an AI or text-reading service. If you sign in and save the photo, it's stored privately with the entry, so you can see it on your other devices.

Spending in other currencies

A receipt in euros, yen, rupiah, or dollars? Wholio picks up the currency, converts the amount into the currency you use with daily exchange rates, and keeps the original amount too. That makes it handy for travel, or if you live in one country and spend in another.

Lots of receipts at once

On a computer, you can add up to 100 photos or PDFs at once, or a whole folder. Each one is read and added in turn. Ones without a total, ones that aren't receipts, and ones already in your tracker are skipped, and you get a short summary at the end.

Tips for a good scan

• Lay the receipt flat, in good light, with the total in the photo.
• Avoid shadows and glare from overhead lights.
• Scan paper receipts soon: the print on many of them fades within months.
• Handwritten totals and very faint prints are hard to read, so type those in.
